Transborders featured on The Japan Times |
Transborders' expertise as real estate agency specifically serving international people in Japan seeking apartments was featured on "The Japan Times" (Nov. 18, 2008)
In the article "Prejudice among obstacles facing non-Japanese tenants," CEO of Transborders Sakiko Tanaka, explains that many of the applications submitted by non-Japanese tenants for moving into apartments are denied even before the contents are considered, because of language barriers between the tenants and the building owners. She also notes that unfortunately, some building owners have negative stereotypes of potential tenants that are based on nationality or ethnicity.
The article also highlights the need for Japan to bring in international people to confront its issues of aging and potential shrink of its economy. Tanaka warns that if Japan is serious about bringing in foreigners, the real estate industry has change a lot, and that Japan has much to work on for attracting highly skilled workers, such as to provide social services in English or other languages for those who do not speak Japanese.
