In Japan, with its 4 distinct seasons, rooms with windows that face the south are extremely popular. Southern facing rooms get the least hours of light in summer and the longest in winter-working as a natural cooling and heating system in the room. However, if you don't really care about the amount of sunlight your room gets you can opt for a cheaper apartment with windows that face the north.
Corner rooms are also very popular because they often have two or more windows. And for safety reasons, rooms on the 2nd floor or above are very popular.
Also, Japan has very well-developed transportation facilities, and many people want apartments that are within walking distance from train stations or bus stops.
It is a rule that real estate agents in Japan have to post information about how long it takes to walk from each real estate property to the closest station-measured as 1 minute being about 80 meters-but most do not actually measure this distance.
We recommend that when you go to check out apartments you check for yourself to see how long it takes to the nearest station. Also, for safety reasons, it might be a good idea to make sure that the neighborhood has foot traffic at night as well as during the day. |
