When renting a room in Japan, you will be asked to join an insurance policy. The amount you pay depends on the construction of the building, when it was built, and other factors.
It takes time and money to get the proper insurance, which may be annoying, but in the case of accidents it is very important to have insurance to compensate for any damage.
Here are some examples which have repeatedly happened in the past among non-Japanese students.
- The hose on the washing machine was connected poorly causing water to leak out. The leak causes the electrical equipment in the downstairs apartment to break.
- The toilet backs up and water floods out. The flood completely ruins the downstairs neighbor's furniture.
- While cooking dinner, oil spits out of the pot leaving burn marks on the walls and ceiling.
- An accidental fire starts on the electric stove, ultimately burning down the entire apartment.
These are not arbitrary examples-they are actual stories of accidents that non-Japanese university students have experienced. A large amount of money is needed to cover such accidentsノso please be sure to get insurance! |
