Japanese food is mainly grilled, boiled, or mixed. Compared to other Asian countries, Japanese dishes are rarely fried in oil. So, kitchen walls flecked with grease and oil are also rarely seen-therefore, when landlords are checking apartments they do not expect to see greasy walls in the kitchen. (Also, Japanese people really don't like to have dirty kitchens!)
If you use oil while preparing food, please be sure to clean diligently so the ceilings and walls aren't left sticky with grease. Also, please be sure to ventilate your kitchen well.
To help protect against stickiness or spattered grease, you can buy special aluminum foil to cover the walls and kitchen counters at any supermarket.
When moving out, to avoid trouble with the landlord or have money taken out of deposit to clean your kitchen, please take extra care to keep your kitchen area clean. |
