The Basics

Greeting your Neighbors

In Japan, it is custom to greet your upstairs, downstairs and next door neighbors when you move into a new apartment.

By doing this, in an emergency, such as an earthquake or fire, you can help each other. Or, if any general problems come up you can talk with each other.

To make a great first impression you can also prepare a simple name card or a little self-introduction to give to your neighbors. Don't be shy - go ahead and greet your neighbors!
