Generally in Japan, Yachin (rent) is paid once a month, every month. Also, in many cases you will have to pay an additional fee by the name of "Kyou-eki-hi" (mutual benefit fee) or "Kanri-hi" (maintenance fee). This covers the maintenance expense for communal areas such as elevators and corridors.
If you aren't told about the separate cost for maintenance, that means that it is included in your monthly rent.
In Japan, rent is paid in advance. When you go to sign your lease contract you will be expected to pay your first month in before you start living in your apartment. If you move into an apartment in the middle of the month, your first month rent will be adjusted based on how many days are left in the month. |
