For International Students who look for an apartment

For International Students

Welcome to Tokyo!

What kind of apartments are you currently living in? Have you found the ideal apartment you were looking for? Did you have to compromise due to that lack of options provided at the time of your apartment search?

Since the number of dormitories offered by Japanese universities are fewer than that offered by universities in other countries, many international students face hardship trying to find apartments on their own.

We at Transborders are passionate to help you find apartments in the Tokyo area that best suit your needs and lifestyle.. Our CEO of Transborders has extensive academic and living experiences in the UK, USA, and Korea. Our staff members also have significant international experiences living abroad, and have a good understanding of the fun and challenges of life in Japan that you experience as foreigner. We sincerely look forward to hearing from you. (Please view “CEO’s Message” for our intentions and passion regarding the startup of Transborders. Please note that since Transborders is located in Tokyo, we can only provide assistance to find apartments in Tokyo.)

There are many things to research when renting apartments in Tokyo, including Japanese law and customs. These complexities, on top of starting a new life in Tokyo, being far away from friends and family, and doing this all in Japanese can be bewildering and highly stressful

For this reason, we provide information regarding “Basics for renting apartment in Japan,” “Glossary of Japanese terms used when renting apartment,” and ““Interviews with foreign students and residents on finding apartment in Tokyo.” The interviews provide first-hand experiences of finding apartments in Tokyo by our customers including students, researchers, and residents who work in Tokyo. It is the Transborders’ mission and our sincere hope that in 10 to 20 years from now when we conduct the same interviews to foreigners about their apartment search, we would receive different and very positive responses about their experiences.

Please contact us, and allow us to help you find your comfortable and desired apartments in Tokyo

FAQ

Q - What makes Transborders different from other real estate agencies?
A - Transborders specializes in assisting foreign students and residents to find apartments in Tokyo. Transborders has access to over 600,000 apartments all over Tokyo, and introduces apartment owners who do not judge their tenants based on nationality or ethnicity.. We also launch initiatives such as collaboration with The University of Tokyo to jointly create “Useful Tips to Find Housing in Japan” guidebook, which enable us to deeply understand the situations and needs of international students, university faculties and administrators.
Q - Can I visit and see the apartment before signing the lease contract?
A – It is common and recommended that people visit and see the apartment that they are interested in.
Q - When I rent an apartment through Transborders, what fee do I pay to Transborders?
A - When you move into apartments that we introduce, Transborders will require a commission fee of 1 month worth of rent plus consumption tax (5%). This is a standard fee charged in the industry.
Q – How can I send my inquiries by email?
A – Please inform us of your needs and questions from “Inquiries.”.
Q I plan to studyin Tokyo 6 months from now. Can Transborders find me an apartment?
Normally, reserving vacant apartment for many months in advance is not possible unless you are willing to pay rent for the period of reservation. We at Transborders recommend that you start looking for an apartment between 1 month and 2 months prior to your expected move in date. We do not recommend people to start looking for an apartment too early.
